Gunmen shot and killed the district governor of Hesa-e-Dowom district in eastern Kapisa province Tuesday morning, local officials said.
The shooting took place in Saha-e-Jamal area of the district when some men opened fire on Syed Mushtaq Sadat, the district governor, and fled the area, the 202 Shamshad police zone commander Fazluddin Ayar told TOLOnews.
Five people have been arrested over the incident and police are further investigating, he said.
No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Insurgents are active in most of the province and frequently target local officials and police check points.
