
At least 17 Taliban militants were killed Saturday in joint Afghan, coalition forces' operations in the southern Helmand province
The operations were conducted in the province's Disho district to wipe out Taliban militants from the area, a spokesman for the governor of Helmand, Daud Ahmadi, told TOLOnews reporter on Sunday.
Some ammunitions and drugs were also seized during the operation, Mr Ahmadi said.
He also said that two Afghan soldiers were killed in the attacks, but he did not reveal their nationalities and further details about the soldiers.
In the meantime, Qari Yosuf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman denied reports about the death of Taliban fighters in the attacks and claimed that Afghan and foreign forces have suffered heavy casualties in the clashes.
Afghan and coalition forces have escalated their counter-insurgency operations in the country's volatile regions to wipe out Taliban insurgents from these areas, in which the anti-government militants have suffered heavy casualties.
