The work of the railway connecting Hairatan border with the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif has not been completed as planned.The railway was expected to be utilised four months ago.
The Afghan Ministry of Public Works said an operational team is to come to Afghanistan from the neighboring Uzbeskistan to help speed up the work.
The Ministry says the construction company is to employ 600 workers soon to complete the project so that the railway can be utilised soon.
Deputy Minister of Public Works, Ahmad Shah Waheed, said a delegation has been sent to Uzbekistan and soon a contract will be signed in presence of a representative from the Asian Development Bank so that the rest of the work can be completed.
The 129-km railway is expected to increase Afghan trade with Central Asian countries and Europe turning Afghanistan into a major trading partner to many countries in the world.
The Hairatan-Mazar railway project is financed by the Asian Development Bank.
