
In his trip to southern Ghazni province, head of the Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC) voiced concern over a surge in insecurity in the province on Sunday
Head of the IEC, Fazel Ahmad Manawi, remarked in a press conference that Afghan security forces should double their efforts to ensure security for the upcoming parliamentary election.
The number of polling centres in upcoming Afghan parliamentary election will be 5,835 that will have 18,762 polling areas, IEC said.
"Regretfully, besides postponement of the election, the situation has brought a condition that makes us close some of our polling centres, but the commission will continue its efforts to compensate the closure," head of the IEC had in a conference in Kabul said.
An increase in insecurity in the southern Ghazni province has caused most of the polling centres to be shut in this province.
Officials in IEC urged security organisations to secure the process of voting during the election.
"Most of the polling centres are closed in Ghazni province," he said.
Meanwhile, Afghan security officials in Ghazni province confirmed tight security preparations besides armed anti-government efforts to mar the election.
