The treasure remained hidden there for 2,000 years, but it was discovered by Soviet archeologists in 1978.
During the years of civil war, the treasure was kept safe in a secret place and was rediscovered in 2003 a few years after the collapse of the Taliban regime.
The National Geographic Society catalogued the collection that was put on display by the National Museum of Afghanistan.
The Bactrian Gold has so far gone on display in different parts of the world.
