Afghan Weight Lifting Federation on Tuesday said that weight lifting competitions were kicked off in Kabul today.
Teams from Kabul, Faryab, Balkh, Baghlan, Kunduz, Herat, Nangarhar and Farah provinces are participating in the three-day competitions.
The competitions are held in eight different weights and 24 top players will be selected for the National Weight Lifting Team.
Marwan, Weight Lifting Federation Deputy said that players are well prepared for these competitions.
"About three months ago, we informed our provincial participants to get prepared for the competitions, as we see they are very well prepared," Marwan said.
Weight lifting players and Olympic Committee officials urged the government to pay more attention to providing standard sports halls and power lifting equipment in the provinces.
"Because weight lifting needs special hall and equipment, we request the federation and Olympic Committee to pay more attention," a player said.
The Weight Lifting Federation has received 10 gold, silver and bronze medals from international competitions.
According to the Federation more than 400 players are practising in the capital and eight other provinces.
