The Weightlifting championship was ended in Kabul on Wednesday as the Army team became the champion of the competitions.
The championship was held between teams from Kabul, Faryab, Balkh, Baghlan, Kunduz, Herat, Nangarhar and Farah provinces and continued for three days.
The championship was held in 8 categories of weight and 24 players were selected for the National Weightlifting Team.
Army team received 8 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals as they were declared as champions of these competitions.
Meanwhile, Herat province team came second as it received 2 silver and 1 bronze medals as Balkh province received 2 silver and 1 bronze medals and one point less than Herat and came third.
Some of the players who were selected for the National Team asked the federation and National Olympic Committee to pay more attention to improve the sport.
"We have been selected as National Team members, we ask the federation and National Olympic Committee to pay special attention to the sport," a player told TOLOnews.
On the other hand head of Weightlifting federation has emphasised that specific measures have been taken for better performance of the players abroad.
"We want to make sure about better performance of the players in the country and try hard to hire foreign trainers," Marwan, Deputy chief of Weightlifting Federation, said.
At the end of the championship, Abdul Ghafoor Rasouli was named as the strongest weightlifter and Mustafa Karmand was named as the best weightlifter.
