TOLOnews, the first news and current affairs channel in Afghanistan, began broadcasting on free-to-air terrestrial transmission in Kabul today.

The 24-hour dedicated news channel was launched in July on satellite, reaching a vast population of Dari and Pashto speakers in the region. Kabul is the first of many cities that TOLOnews will reach via terrestrial transmission, with other major cities launch soon.

"TOLOnews has been enormously successful and our entry into the terrestrial market will further expand our reach," said Mujahid Kakar, head of TOLOnews.

"There has been an increased demand for terrestrial coverage, particularly in the lead up to the parliamentary elections on September 18. 3 million of the city's inhabitants can now easily tune in to receive fresh, up-to-date news and information on TOLOnews, including round the clock coverage of the elections."

TOLOnews is part of the MOBY Group network of channels in Afghanistan, which includes popular brands TOLO and Lemar. TOLOnews offers a variety of local and international news and current affairs programs including regular news bulletins, documentaries, political commentary, investigative reports, debates and in-depth interviews. It also provides articles, videos and special reports in Dari, Pashto and English via its online platform, www.tolonews.com.
