
A group of Taliban attacked NATO bases in the eastern Khost province Saturday morning, in which 11 Taliban were killed and five others were wounded
Taliban militants attacked two NATO bases in the eastern Khost province, the first named Salerno located 4 km far from Khost city, the province's provincial capital and the second called Chapman one km far from the city.
A group of 25 Taliban militants launched rockets and conducted militant attacks on NATO military bases at 4 am Saturday, in which 11 Taliban militants were killed and 5 others were wounded, said head of NATO media office in Khost province.
Two NATO soldiers are also wounded in the attack, NATO officials say.
Meanwhile Afghan and coalition forces have started their counter-insurgency operations in the province in an effort to wipeout Taliban militants from the area, the Police Chief of Khost, Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai, told TOLOnews.com reporter.
Five Taliban insurgents have been arrested in the operations so far, a NATO military official told TOLOnews reporter.
An Afghan soldier is also reportedly wounded in the operation.
Taliban claim that they have destroyed a NATO chopper in these operations.
Taliban have also launched rocket-propelled attacks on NATO bases before.
Afghan and coalition forces have escalated their counter-insurgency operations to wipeout Taliban militants from the country's insecure provinces, in which insurgents have suffered heavy casualties and some are also arrested with their weapons.
