
The Ministry of Transport and Aviation is planning to rehabilitate 30 airports throughout the country
Officials in the Ministry of Transport and Aviation said the reconstruction work of 4 airports is in progress in the northern Badakhshan and Faryab and the western Ghor and Badghis provinces.
The cost for the reconstruction of these 4 airports is estimated around $33 million that will be paid as a loan by the Asian Development Bank.
The asphalt cost of Badakhshan, Faryab and Ghor airports will be covered by the Afghan Ministry of Finance and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry adds.
"We are now focusing more on rural areas, and the work is going fast in five provinces," Raz Muhammad Elmi, the technical deputy of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, told TOLOnews.
The Ministry of Transport and Aviation added that the reconstruction work of an airport in Trinkot, the provincial capital of Uruzgan province, will be completed within a year and it will be ready to be used by mid 2011.
