
Re-design and rebuilding project of Joy-e-Now major water canal in Enjeel district of Herat is signed with a private contractor.
The Afghan Ministry of Water and Energy says that the project is a part of the bigger project to restore water resources of Afghanistan's west region.
According to the ministry, the project implementation will cost more than 8 million dollars, which is expected to be accomplished in 2 years.
The project will include canal digging of 345,000 cubic meters, 9,000 cubic meters of gravelling and other technical work.
The project costs will be covered by the Asian Development Bank loans, said the ministry.
Acting Minster of Water and Energy, Mohammad Ismail, said: "This is one of the major contracts to be signed with Mumtaz private company to build
a 20km long water canal."
The Ministry cites improvement of water management system and modernisation of irrigation as the main advantages of such projects and says that after the project is accomplished, no more water will be wasted in Enjeel district of Heart.
