Officials in the Ministry of Water and Energy said on Sunday that a power station has been built at a cost of $300 million dollars

The cost of the construction of the power station was provided with financial aid from the US, officials said.

The Afghan Ministry of Water and Energy said the new station, which is in Tarakhel - an outskirt of Kabul, will only be used in emergency conditions, like technical problems that arise in the electricity system in Kabul.

"Both countries have promised to maintain security and develop the Afghan economy, in particular energy. We will also give technical education to the male and female staffs of Brishna Company in Tarakhel Power Station," said the US ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry.

Kabul has about 400 extra megawatts of power, which will be soon transmitted to Ghazni, Zabul, Uruzgan and Kandahar, southern provinces, the ministry said.

Kabul, the Afghan capital, has sufficient electricity, though part of it is dissipated due to the poor power network in the city, according to reports by Brishna Power Company.
