Deputy Attorney General Saturday announced that final results of Afghan parliamentary elections should be cancelled

Rahmatullah Nazari, Deputy Attorney General said 14 electoral decision-makers along with 12 other individuals working in private construction firms and stock market have been introduced to Supreme Court over charges of electoral frauds.

Mr Nazari called for formation of a separate commission by President Karzai to address the issue of elections.

Because of corruption, widespread fraud and injustice in the process of elections, the final results should be cancelled, said Attorney General's Office.

He said: "we sought cancellation of final results of elections from Supreme Court and also punishment to those who committed electoral frauds."

There is sufficient evidence that proves some decision-making figures in Independent Election Commission and Electoral Complaints Commission have committed frauds and violations, he said.

"Evidence through which we have sought punishment to them is big in number," Mr Nazari said.

The Attorney General's Office said it won't be responsible for likely political consequences of final results' cancellation.

He said: "based on the law, Attorney General is impartial and he should not be a member of any political party. Attorney General is obliged to act based on rules of law. And it will be none of our concern if it leads to some political consequences."

But, Electoral Complaints Commission said reviews of Attorney General's Office will have no impact on final results of elections.

"To the extent ECC has investigated, it hasn't faced a case that could bring votes of winning candidates under question. If it were so, the ECC would have investigated it. At no cost, reviews of Attorney General could affect the final results," said the spokesman for ECC, Ahmad Zia Rafat.
