Ethnicity: Hazara

Role: leader of political party Wahdat-e-Mardum

One of the two most prominent Hazara politicians in the country, Haji Mohammed Mohaqiq fought both the Soviets and the Taliban.
He joined forces with Mohammed Atta and Abdul Rashid Dostum in 2001, capturing Mazaar-e-Sharif, a high point for the United Front (Northern Alliance).

He was made minister of planning in the interim government, a role that ended in 2004.

He came third in the last presidential elections and now runs his own party, Wahdat-e-Mardum, while also being a member of fellow Hazara Karim Khalili's party, Wahdat.
