National Unity Government (NUG) CEO Abdullah Abdullah, on Monday insisted on the thorough prosecution of the murderers of 10 members of a single family in Kabul.
Abdullah said the incident was a big crime and a shocking incident.
“It was a big crime, three suspects have been arrested. We want the interior ministry and the Directorate of National Security to seriously investigate the issue,” said Abdullah Abdullah.
Kabul police arrested the three suspects in connection with the Friday night homicide in Kabul city.
The police said that the three suspects had fled to Balkh province and when they wanted to return to Kabul on Sunday, they were arrested.
Police said that the three detainees are the perpetrators of the mass murder.
However, the main planner of the homicide has not yet been arrested and police are searching for him. Family members of the slain victims have demanded the immediate prosecution of the three suspects already in custody.
“The weapon and all the equipment that was used in this incident belong to a man named Aziz. The family also claims he is behind the killings,” said Mohammad Salem Almas, head of Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Kabul Police.
“Aziz is the brother of Kan Sheren (the main suspect in the incident) and he was working with an irresponsible commander. The weapon was provided to two persons who wore uniforms. Aziz also provided a weapon to Khan Sheren,” said Khan Sheren, a member of the victims’ family.
The incident took place in the Khairkhana area in the north of Kabul on Friday evening when 10 members of one family were murdered and three others injured.
The victims were laid to rest on Saturday afternoon.
The incident sparked anger among members of the public and of senators in Meshrano Jirga, the Upper House of Parliament.
Lawmakers on Sunday asked Kabul Police to arrest those behind the murder case.
Meanwhile, other senators recommended that the Ministry of Interior “issue licensed guns to families” so that they can ensure their own safety in such incidents.
