Demand For Traditional Dress Increases Among Afghan Women

Owner of a dress designing center in Kabul says Afghan women are interested in traditional dresses more than ever before. She says the mounting interest of women in traditional dress has helped her to see tremendous boost in the her business.

Mohsina Saqib said she wants to open a dress designing training center to extend her skill to other Afghan women.

Saqib said started with investing $20,000 USD and that now her investment has climbed to $50,000 USD within a year. 

“There are days when we do not have time to receive all the orders from our customers,” said Saqib. 

Saqib’s daughter, Somaiya Saqib, said she is learning dress designing skills in India. 

“There is no place in Afghanistan to train me in designing therefore I went abroad to learn designing skills,” Saqib said. 

She said they are trying to design good quality dress and want to provide job opportunity to more women.

“If women have the skill and the money, they should not hesitate to start the business and use their skills,” Saqib said.
