Govt Declares Monday A Holiday In Kabul In Wake Of Attack

The Afghan national government has said Monday will be a public holiday in Kabul city so as to free up resources in order to help those affected by Saturday’s bombing.

The incident claimed the lives of 103 people and wounded over 260 others.

Earlier in the day, government declared Sunday a national day of mourning.

In a message on twitter, President Ashraf Ghani said: “To pay tribute to the victims of latest terrorist attacks in Kabul, Nangarhar and Kandahar; the Afghan government announces today as a national day of mourning. The Afghan flag remains half-mast across the country and at Afghan diplomatic missions abroad.”

A short while later President Ashraf Ghani issued a statement and said: “Enemies of humanity and Islam –Taliban, Haqqani Network, Daesh and their sponsors – devastated the lives of hundreds of innocent Afghans in the last few days, conducting brutal terrorist activities in Kabul, Jalalabad and Kandahar.

“The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan declares today (Sunday) a National Mourning Day across the country to commemorate and pay tribute to the victims and their families. The national flag of Afghanistan will be at half-mast throughout the country as well as in Afghan embassies and diplomatic missions abroad.

“The Government has also announced that Monday will be a day off in Kabul, in order to free resources to provide better services to those affected as a result of Saturday’s inhumane attack on civilians,” the statement read.
