The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Sunday that the sixth Quadrilateral Meeting between Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the United States will be held in Oman on Monday. 

According to the foreign ministry, deputy foreign ministers of the four countries will attend the meeting and will hold talks on implementing commitments, especially Pakistan’s promises, regarding fighting terrorism.  

Foreign ministry spokesman Shekib Mustaghni said in addition to discussions on commitments, the delegates will also share ideas on counter-terrorism efforts. 

The sixth quadrilateral meeting on Afghanistan security is being resumed after a break of one year. 

From Afghanistan, in addition to the deputy foreign minister, a representative from the High Peace Council (HPC) will also attend at the meeting. 

“Deputy foreign minister with a delegation and a representative from the High Peace Council went to Oman and the meeting will be held tomorrow. The meeting is aimed to review Pakistan's commitments on talks  (peace) that had been made at previous meetings,” said Mustaghni. 

Before this, five quadrilateral meetings were held and a road map was sketched out for peace, but after the meetings, Pakistan was accused of not fulfilling its promises and the follow up meeting was delayed for one year. 

“It would be better to commit at the meeting to practically start fighting against terrorism,” international affairs analyst, Muhib Ashraf said. 

Senate members meanwhile said they are not hopeful about positive result coming out of the upcoming meeting. 

“Government should make it clear when we will see the results of such meetings,” senator Abdul Rahman Achakzai said. 

The first quadrilateral meeting was held between Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and US on the sidelines of Heart of Asia Summit in 2015 and following that, four other meetings were held in Kabul and Islamabad.
