Police Seize Explosive Laden Truck In Kabul City

A suicide truck bomber was arrested by police on Saturday night in Kabul city along with a truck loaded with explosives, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a statement early Sunday.

The man was arrested in Khusal Khan in PD5 of Kabul city shortly after 10pm on Saturday night.

According to the MoI “the attacker ignored police when told to stop the vehicle at a police check post and police shot at him, and wounded him.”

The truck was carrying heavy explosives and two rockets which had been packed under tomatoes.

According to police the Haqqani network was reportedly responsible for the truck and had planned to attack a government facility.

Police said preliminary investigations show that Haqqani organizer behind the planned attack was Mullah Anas.

The driver, Zainuddin, was from Wardak province.

Police said the check post soldiers first became suspicious when they saw the truck's number plate was from Helmand.

The ministry of interior has meanwhile announced that the soldiers who thwarted the attack by stopping the truck will all be promoted.
