Senate Chairman Defies Kandahar Gathering, Backs Govt

Fazel Hadi Muslimyar, chairman of Afghanistan’s Senate on Sunday strongly reacted to the gathering of the political opponents of the government in Kandahar, saying the meeting was indecent and pledged to continue supporting the present government.

Meanwhile, other senators said that members of Kandahar political gathering were seeking their personal objectives at the gathering, convened in the southern province of the country.

In their response, members of Kandahar gathering said that those dealing with the gathering from a negative perspective display their illogical analysis of the situation and their own ignorance.

“Everyone has the right to criticize and suggest solutions for reforms, but challenging the nation and the government is a curse and no one will allow you to do so,” said the Senate chairman.

“The meeting was organized only for personal motives and privileges, it was not a national meeting. It is very regrettable, no one came for their support in social media,” said second deputy of Senate speaker Asif Sediqqi.

But Senate chairman says that he will continue to support the National Unity Government (NUG) under president Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah.

“Those who are within the system must support it, but when they are sent out from the system, they think about conspiracies against the government,” said senator Nisar Haris.

“We are also supporting the system. We have said nothing to harm the government or the system, some of the friends who speak here only reflect discrimination, personal rivalries. If Mr. Muslimyar has some type of disagreement, then it is a separate issue,” said MP Abdul Wadoud Paiman.

At a gathering in Kandahar on Saturday, a group of politicians called on the National Unity Government to hold the upcoming elections at its scheduled time and to bring about serious reforms to state organizations.

Participants of the gathering criticized the government over certain issues and claimed that the state had failed to overcome current challenges.

This comes after the political meeting, which was supposed to be held in Kandahar on Thursday, was postponed for the second time on Friday as some participants of the meeting could not travel to the province due to some reasons.

The meeting was held under the motto of “the real unity to discuss current challenges” in the country.
