Trump Officially Recognizes Jerusalem As Israel’s Capital

Ahead of the decision, a spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned it would have "dangerous consequences" for the region.

In defiance to the international pressure, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that he officially recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. 
 
He described the move as "a long overdue step" to advance the Middle East peace process.
 
The US leader said his country would support a two-state solution, if approved by both the Israelis and the Palestinians.
 
“Israel is a sovereign nation with the right, like every other sovereign nation, to determine its own capital.” He said.
 
Trump said US remains committed to Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, calls for calm and tolerance after Jerusalem decision
 
Trump directed the US government to begin preparations to move US embassy from Tel Aviv
