Documentary: China’s Belt And Road Initiative
Belt And Road Initiative is a development and infrastructural strategy which was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. It constitutes one of the world’s major infrastructural project. The work on parts of the project has already started in some countries.
Proposed by Xi in 2013, the program is an estimated $5 trillion (pdf) infrastructure spending spree that spans 60-plus countries across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
Chinese officials believe that the project will have significant impacts on the peace process in Afghanistan. It is said that implementation of the project will lead to fresh economic prosperity and regional connectivity in at least 60 countries of the world.
In May, president Xi pledged at least $113 billion in extra funding for the initiative, and urged countries across the globe to join hands with him in pursuit of globalization.
In this documentary, Shabir Ahmadi has sketched out different aspects of the project and its economic impacts on Afghanistan.
