6:30 REPORT: A Look At Illegal Mining In Afghanistan

In this episode of 6:30 Report, host Tariq Majidi looks at evidence that reveals the extent of ongoing illegal extraction of minerals from mines in 31 provinces of Afghanistan.

The program show that the Ministry of Mines has been run by a caretaker minister for more than a year and this has led to a decrease in investments in the mining sector and has also helped contractor companies evade taxes amounting to millions of AFs.

The probe reveals that contractor companies owe more than 4 billion AFs to the Ministry of Mines. In addition, two former ministers of mines, Mohamamd Akbar Barikzai and Wahidullah Shahrani owe the ministry 2.5 million AFs and more than one million AFs respectively for purchasing equipment for their houses.
