Dozens Of Militants Killed In Nuristan Airstrikes

Military officials from Nuristan province said dozens of militants were killed and wounded in airstrikes carried out in the eastern province.

Sherin Aqa Faqiryar, spokesman for Selab 201 Corps, told TOLOnews that the airstrikes were carried out by the Afghan National Army.

He said 85 militants including two of their commanders were killed and a number of weapons belonging to the insurgents were recovered by security forces during the raids.

He said a Daesh commander was killed in a foreign forces airstrike in Kunar province in Afghanistan’s east.

This comes after foreign forces increased their airstrikes against militant strongholds.

On Friday, military officials in the northeast zone said that over 120 Taliban fighters including their 20 commanders were killed in airstrikes and land operations during last month.

Officials from 209 Shaheen Military Corps Headquarters in Balkh said the level of conflict has fallen in some provinces including Badakhshan and Baghlan following the military operations.

Badakhshan officials said Taliban militants are afraid of the airstrikes and night raids and that the group has decreased its activities in the province.

Some army soldiers in the northern provinces have said the airstrikes that target the Taliban and other insurgents are helping their ground operations.
