Herat To Get 30MW Power From Salma Dam

At least 30 megawatts (MW) of power will be added to Herat's electricity system within the next 10 days, officials said Sunday.

Provincial head of power company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), Wahid Ahmad Karmani, said the electricity will help boost agricultural and industry activities in the province and that Herat's eastern districts will have permanent electricity.

Salma Dam which has been named the Afghan-India Friendship Dam will be inaugurated within the next 10 days.

"The dam will help overcome a lack of electricity in Herat and we are trying to make more efforts in this regard," he said.

Meanwhile, a number of Herat residents said they see the inauguration of Salma Dam as a big sign of Afghanistan-India's close friendship.

They said it will help them improve their industrial and agricultural activities.

"Salma Dam was a dream for Herat residents and we are happy that we will use it in the near future," said Mohammad Daud Ansari, a resident of Herat.

Another resident, Daud Rahmani, said: "We are happy that finally we will get the benefits of the dam. This will overcome lots of problems for Herat residents."

At least 30 megawatts (MW) of power will be added to Herat's electricity system within the next 10 days, officials said Sunday.
