Afghanistan Takes On UAE In Its Final Intercontinental Cup Match

The Afghanistan National Cricket team left Kabul on Sunday for Abu Dhabi where they will play their last match of the ICC Intercontinental Cup tournamentagainst the United Arab Emirates at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, in Abu Dhabi.

The four-day match starts on Wednesday.

Currently Afghanistan is top of the table with 101 points. Ireland is in second place with 89 points.

The UAE meanwhile is in fourth place with only 47 points.

Afghanistan needs only 10 points to win the trophy.

Eight countries have taken part in the contest which kicked off in 2015. The countries are Afghanistan, Ireland, Netherlands, UAE, Scotland, Hong Kong, Namibia and Papua New Guinea.

Immediately after the ICC match against UAE, Afghanistan will face Ireland in three One Day International (ODI) matches – also at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Nabi, a member of the national team, said that the players are well prepared and have been in training for the past month.

“We had training in India and I also had training for over 25 days in Bangladesh and we will try to win our last match in the ICC Cup against UEA,” Nabi said.

Afsar Zazai, another member of the team, said: “This competition started in 2015 and will end in 2017 and our last match in this competition is against UEA which is very important for us. Fortunately, we are in first place in these competitions and we hope to win this match as well.”

After facing Ireland, Afghanistan’s next big ODI series will be in February against Zimbabwe. Two T20 matches will also be played.
