Asian Chess Competition to be Held In Kabul

The President of the World Chess Federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Tuesday morning visited Kabul and announced that the next Asian chess competition will be held in the capital Kabul within three months.

During his visit, Ilyumzhinov met with Afghan Hafizullah Wali Rahimi, General Director of Physical Education and Sport, and Mohammad Zahir Aghbar, chairman the Afghan Olympic Committee in Kabul and discussed chess situation in the country.

Ilyumzhinov said that more than 600 million people across the globe play chess.

He sets out his plans for Afghanistan to promote chess in schools, villages, among the disabled, and to build a sports hall for the Afghan Chess Federation.

“He (Ilyumzhinov) promised us the establishment of a chess school in Afghanistan. The next Asia chess competitions will be held in Kabul and we welcome his decision,” said Mohammad Zahir Aghbar chairman of AOC.

The President of the World Chess Federation, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, along with Uzbekistan’s chess chairman and Asia zone 3 and 4 heads visited Kabul at the official invitation of the Afghan Physical Education and sports directorate and chess federation.
