Ceremony Held To Honor Zurkhaneh Team’s Win In Nepal

Officials from the Department of Physical Education and Sports (DPES) held a ceremony in Kabul on Sunday for the national Zurkhaneh team which won 13 gold medals, one silver medal and two bronze at the South Asian Zurkhaneh Sports Championships in Nepal last week.

Eight countries participated at the event – with Afghanistan scooping the overall cup in both group and individual categories.

On the last day of the competition, Omar Gul and Zalgai Rahmati both won gold medals in the 90kg and 100kg category respectively. 

Mustafa Nuristani won silver in the 70kg category.

“We prepared well for the competition over the past two months and fortunately we were able to win 16 medals in total at the contest which was held in Nepal,” Iqbal Manucher, head of Afghanistan’s Zurkhaneh Federation said.

Head of media of Mohammad Arif Paiman from the Department of Physical Education and Sports said: “It was the first time that our athletes performed well and today we are praising them.”
