Disabled Basketball Team Ready To Leave For Indonesia

The girls national wheelchair basketball team will leave Kabul on Monday for Indonesia where they will take part in the Asia Wheelchair Basketball Championships.

The competition will start on Tuesday and will last for eight days.

The national wheelchair basketball team this year completed a two week technical and training program in Thailand and more recently participated in extensive training sessions in Kabul.

The girls said they are now well-prepared to take part in the upcoming championships in Indonesia.

“Our exercises in Thailand and in Kabul were very helpful for us. All the girls from different provinces have gathered and we are working well together as a team; and are happy that for the first time we can participate in a competition outside of the country. I hope that we can win a place in the competition,” Nilofar Bayat, a member of the wheelchair basketball team said.

“Disability is not inability. As we managed to become athletes, other disabled girls can also serve the country like healthy people in many ways,” said Plosha, another member of the team.

Sixteen girls from Afghanistan will participate in the competition.

The competition will be held on Indonesia’s Bali Island and 14 teams from around Asia will participate.
