Rashid Khan Scoops ICC’s Associate Player Of Year Award

Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has been named the ICC Associate Cricketer of the Year after notching up a record number of wickets in 2017.

The ICC said on Thursday that Rashid Khan, at only 19, took 60 wickets for Afghanistan last year, which was a record for an Associate player in a calendar year.

Rashid Khan also took 43 wickets in ODIs – which was also a record for an Associate player.

“I am really honored and happy to get the award of ICC Associate player of the year. It is very honorable and a happy moment for me to get this and to know that how I performed in 2017 was memorable and has lots of memories, so I really enjoyed myself in 2017.

“Even I am here in Australia for the Strikers and have been followed by the people, the fans – it’s amazing getting fans all over the world. I am so happy for 2017,” said Rashid Khan.

The 19-year-old leg-spinner, who hails from Nangarhar, made his ODI debut for Afghanistan during their tour of Zimbabwe in October 2015. At the time he was only 17 years old.

In February last year, he fetched the highest ever bid for an Associate player in the IPL Auction where he was snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for about $750,000 USD.

He has since played for Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League, for the Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash and for the Caribbean Premier League.

Earlier this week reports indicated that Rashid Khan is once again on the list of top cricketers that will be bought on auction for this year’s IPL on January 27 and 28.
