NUG Accused Of Negligence In Security And Economy

Just two days ahead of the National Unity Government's (NUG) second anniversary, a number of critics on Monday accused government of inefficiency in terms of ensuring security, developing infrastructure, fighting endemic corruption in public office and economic development.

"Corruption and a lack of good governance is felt not only in Kabul but at a provincial level - these are important issues to be addressed in order to ensure stability in the country," said political commentator Harun Mir.

Meanwhile, the head of Massoud Foundation, Ahmad Wali Massoud, talked about the issue and said the legitimacy of the NUG after Thursday is questionable and that leaders have not been able to even solve problems inside government.

"The security situation is worsening. Thousands of youth are fleeing the country. There are tens of thousands of youth with an unknown future in the country and there is corruption mostly inside government," he said.

Speaking on the issue, the Defense Ministry deputy spokesman Mohammad Radmanish said: "We had casualties (among troops), but we are equipped and improving gradually. We have taken measures to thwart threats and they are effective."
