Afghan Cricket Team Beat West Indies By 63 Runs

Afghanistan National Cricket Team on Saturday defeated the West Indies team, the T20 World Cup champions, in their first One Day International match by 63 runs.

As reported by espncricket, the 63-run victory for Afghanistan, their first in this format over a Full Member other than Zimbabwe or Bangladesh, exposed the ineptness of a West Indies unit struggling in their quest to qualify directly for the 2019 World Cup.

But it was Rashid Khan who stood out and introduced in the 23rd over with West Indies seemingly steady at 68 for 2, he broke open the game by picking up wickets off his first two deliveries, reported espncricket.

And if that wasn't impressive enough, he struck on consecutive balls in the 25th as well to be on a hat-trick twice during the course of his first two overs,

At the end of the play, Rashid Khan was named man the match.

Speaking at the end of the match, Afghan captain Asghar Stanikzai said: "We are very happy today. It is a big win for us. It has been a good day for us. We won the toss and batted first, our target was 220. We knew the conditions were good for spin and had set our target.

"We are looking forward to playing positive cricket. Congratulations to Rashid Khan for taking 7 wickets, he has showed how good he is."

Rashid Khan responded: "We really needed this one after losing three consecutive T20Is. I just tried my best and gave 100 percent. The actually was not that good for batsmen to score quick runs but the bowlers too did their job and bowled according to the plan."

Afghanistan will play the West Indies in their second of three ODI matches on Sunday.
