The Afghanistan National Under-19 Cricket Team on Wednesday returned home to a hero’s welcome after a successful tournament at the World Cup Qualifiers in Singapore.
The competition started earlier this month where Afghanistan played six matches against Malaysia, Nepal and the host Singapore and notched up six back-to-back wins.
Team Afghanistan was on top form in the matches and won by huge margins.
Talking on the return of the national U19 squad, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) chairman Atif Mashal said their victory was a great achievement for cricket in the country.
Mashal vowed to continue their efforts to strengthen cricket, to bring more reforms in the cricket council and to prepare the U19s for the ICC U19 World Cup 2018.
The U19s coach Dawlat Ahmadzai said the strategy and the plans of the team will change following this victory.
He said he is committed to leaving no stone unturned to prepare his team for the ICC U19 World Cup 2018.
Meanwhile, the U19 team members said they are excited about their victory in the qualifying rounds.
Bowler Yusuf Zazai said he has gained a lot of experience from the competition.
He said the team will strive to achieve more successes for Afghanistan’s cricket.
Their last match was on Tuesday where they beat Nepal to qualify for the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup.
It was Afghanistan’s second match against Nepal in the WC qualifiers.
