Afghanistan, Kazakhstan Agree To Boost Trade Ties

Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah in his official visit to Kazakhstan met with Kazakh officials and investors where they agreed on the expansion of trade and transit relations between the two countries.

Addressing a meeting with Kazakh officials, Abdullah said his team will further discuss the ways to improve facilities for Afghan investors in Kazakhstan, the chief executive’s office said in a statement on Friday.

He stressed the need for a wider investment of Kazakhstan investors in Afghanistan.

“The Afghan government is ready to ensure the safety of Kazakhstan investors and will consider special privileges for them to prevent any challenges on the way of their investment in Afghanistan,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Yerlan Arinov, chairman of Kazakhstan International Chamber of Commerce, said that the trade value between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan has reached to $50 million USD, adding that the amount needs to increase.

“Kazakhstan investors are committed to increasing the trade volume with Afghanistan in transit, liquid gas, mines, industries, logistics, exports and imports sectors,” he said.

At the same event, the Afghan commerce and industries minister Humayun Rasa said they will appoint a trade representative from Afghanistan in Astana with the hope that the envoy would facilitate the sale of Afghan products in Kazakhstan markets.

The remarks come after Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries termed Kazakhstan as a good market for the local products, saying that the trade volume between the two states has decreased to 50 percent.
