DABS To Launch Solar Power Project In Kabul

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) has designed a project which will help government institutions and Kabul residents to use solar power instead of the imported electricity.

The DABS officials said the company would help customers to install the equipment on their house or offices.

The plan is a mid-term solution for electricity shortage in Kabul, he said.

Head of the company, Amanullah Ghalib, said the Asian Development Bank has showed interest to fund the project.

He said the DABS would provide 50 percent of the solar system expenses to its customers if the Asian Development Bank delivers its promise in this respect.

“We will implement the plan and hopefully it will be implemented in ministries by the end of this year or the next year,” said Ghalib.

Meanwhile, some Kabul residents welcomed the plan but said that power shortage a major problem for them.

“We have many problems, including lack of power. The solar power will help us to use all electric equipment at home,” said Arab Shah, a resident of Kabul.

“Many parts of Qasaba area in Kabul are faced with lack of electricity. We must have full access to electricity,” another Kabul resident, Fazal said.

The project will be implemented in two phases: The first phase, which will be completed by the end of the next year, will cover ministries and other government institutions and will produce up to 15 megawatts of power. And the second phase will cover the DABS customers across Kabul.
