A NATO soldier was killed following an attack by militants in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, said ISAF

One soldier was killed Sunday in an insurgent attack, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said in a statement.

The soldier's identity and nationality were not immediately released.

This is the fourth NATO soldier that has been killed since the beginning of September in Afghanistan.

A total of 495 international soldiers, 327 of them Americans have been killed in Afghanistan this year excluding the latest fatalities, according to the independent icasualties.org website that tracks the death of foreign soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The NATO force peaked this month to more than 150,000 with the arrival of the last reinforcements that President Obama deployed to Afghanistan in a bid to turn the tide of the nearly 9 year war.
