At least, 17 civilians were injured after an ISAF car which was set on fire in an attack by insurgents in Manogai, a district in eastern Kunar province, exploded on Sunday

"The incident took place seconds after a convoy of NATO troops was targeted by a group of unknown gunmen," Kunar Police Chief, Khalilullah Zeyahee, told TOLOnews.

A NATO convoy while crossing the area was attacked by insurgents and in the gun battle one of NATO cars was set on fire and because the car had ammunition in it, exploded and left 17 civilians hurt, he added.

But ISAF media office in eastern Afghanistan said that the civilians were injured during the attack.

Foreign forces haven't been vulnerable in the assault.

Manogai is a relatively secured district and rarely foreign forces convoy is attacked by militants in the district.

An offensive which was launched on Saturdy by Afghan and foreign forces to hunt down the Taliban in the province, 23 of the Taliban fighters were killed and five others detained in the operation.

The incident happened as foreign troops and Afghan forces have underway operations to wipe out the Taliban from restive parts of Afghanistan in order to secure the upcoming Afghan parliamentary poll which is to be held by 18 September.
