The Afghan Ministry of Hajj and Pilgrimage has allowed 27 private travel agencies to provide transportation for Afghans heading to Mecca to perform Hajj duties

Officials in the ministry of Hajj and Pilgrimage say the 27 private travel agencies were chosen from among 130 volunteer agencies through draws.

The Ministry says they have provided conditions for 5000 pilgrims through private sector and 10000 other pilgrims can provide their Hajj preparations either through the government or the private sector.

Each of the private airlines can provide services for about 180 pilgrims, the ministry adds.

"We started the Hajj draw among private travel agencies, in which 130 of them had participated and this was the only way to consider transparency in the process," the Minister of Hajj and Pilgrimage, Mohammad Yosuf Niazi, told TOLOnews.

The Ministry of Hajj and Pilgrimage says the private airlines are obliged to provide all services to the travellers heading towards Mecca in return for $3100/ticket.
