At least 20 Afghan civilians were killed and another 25 were wounded in a road-side mine blast Wednesday morning in the south-western Nimroz province

The incident happened when a passenger car, on its way to Kabul, was struck by a mine blast on Wednesday morning, said the governor of Nimroz, Ghulam Dastagir Azad.

All the victims are civilians and the wounded ones were immediately taken to Kabul and Herat, he added.

Road-side mines are often planted by insurgents to target foreign and Afghan soldiers, in which most victims are civilians.

The report comes when residents in Sangin district of Helmand had claimed on Sunday that 45 villagers who had fled gunfire and took shelter in a house, were killed on Friday after a missile fired by foreign forces hit the house in the district, a claim denied by NATO that announced no evidences were found to confirm the death reports in the district.

The Amnesty International has recently said the secret US military documents published recently reveal that NATO is following an incoherent process dealing with civilian deaths, and has urged NATO to follow a coherent and responsible process regarding civilian casualties in Afghanistan.
