At least 50 people have died of floods caused due to heavy rainfalls in the past two days, most of them in eastern and central provinces, officials said

Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) said 31 people in Kapisa, 12 in Laghman, 3 in Nangarhar and three others have been killed in Kunar province. It said the numbers are increasing.

"These floods have run into Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Kapisa and Kabul provinces," head of ANDMA told TOLOnews.

The department said the number of casualties caused by these floods is likely to increase.

ANDMA said the emergency committee has paid 100,000 Afghanis to the victims' families, and the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) will deliver food, shelter, clothing and other necessities to the victims' families for the next three months.

President Hamid Karzai has ordered the Ministries of Defence and Interior Affairs to deliver aid to the affected families.

"It is always painful to hear such news. I send my condolences to all the affected families," said Karzai.

"All charity organizations must come to Kapisa province, visit the affected families and help them," said one of the locals.
