Head of the Independent Election Commission remarked on Sunday that in case security continues to deteriorate in the country, the IEC will choose other options in holding the poll

Head of the IEC, Fazel Ahmad Manawi, said efforts by the Afghan security forces to open polling centres in restive parts of the country are behind the schedule.

"If the security situation does not improve or deteriorates, we will use other legal options," he said.

Some days ago, the Afghan Defence Ministry announced that 91 other polling centres which were closed due to a shortcoming in security, were secured, but the IEC refuses to acknowledge that the announced polling centres are secured.

IEC's programmes are set based on the decisions made by Afghan security organisations.

Previously, Afghan security organisations had announced that in total 938 polling centres will remain closed during the parliamentary poll.

"The list of polling centres is based on the list that was announced on August. The list will not be increased, but its very likely that some other centres will be closed, if they are not secured," he said.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Complaints Commission said on Sunday that two Ministers and one governor use government facilities in the interest of some specific parliamentary polling candidates and warned that it will disclose their names, if the government pays no attention to the issue.
