The meeting will be held in the coming weeks in Saudi Arabia ahead of the establishment of a Taliban office in Qatar.

A senior Afghan government official told the BBC that talks will be convened in the region in addition to the establishment of a Taliban office in Qatar.

"Even if the Taliban office is established in Qatar, we will obviously pursue other efforts in the region including Saudi Arabia and Turkey," the official said.

The Taliban previously refused to recognise President Karzai's government and called it a stooge government.

In this episode of Towde Khabare, host Shapoor Bakhtyar discusses the issue with experts.
