Iran has slammed the oil sanction adopted by the foreign ministers of the European Union foreign ministers in Brussels, reports say.
Iran has said the embargo is "unfair" and "doomed to fail", the BBC reported.
Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, has said the measures would not prevent his country's "progress for achieving its basic rights".
The recent EU sanctions, announced on Monday, banned all new oil contracts with Iran and froze Iran's central bank assets in the EU.
"European officials and other countries which are under America's political pressure... should consider their national interests and not deprive themselves of Iran's oil to help US officials achieve their secret aims," BBC quotes Mr Mehmanparast as saying.
US President Barack Obama has welcomed the sanctions adopted by the EU foreign ministers, and said the move showed international unity against the "serious threat" posed by Iran's nuclear programme.
