Afghan Judokas Off To Japan For Asian Championships

A group of Afghan judokas on Tuesday left Kabul for Japan to attend the Asian Judo Championship 2017 in Hong Kong.

At least 48 countries will participate at the event which will start on May 26.

“Our athletes have done inclusive exercises and we hope that they will bring honor to our country,” said Farhad Hazrati, deputy head of Afghanistan Judo Federation.

The Afghan team includes three men and one female judoka as well as a coach and advisor.

“We were quarantined for four months and we are fully ready to hoist the Afghan flag at the Asian event. We call on the people to pray for our victory,” said Nigara Shaheen, a female member of the judo team.

“We have trained hard and we will bring good results to the country,” said Mohammad Zahir Sarwari, another member of the national team.

On May 13, three Afghan judokas attended the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.
