Afghanistan To Face Iran In Futsal Semifinals At Ashgabat Games

The National Futsal Team of Afghanistan is through to the semifinals after defeating host nation Turkmenistan in on Saturday evening. 

Afghanistan will now take on current futsal champions, Iran at this year’s Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat on Sunday. 

Saturday’s match ended in a 4-4 draw. In a penalty kick off, Afghanistan won the match 6-5. 

In the run up to the match, Afghanistan beat the United Arab Emirates. The Afghan squad also beat China 6-1 and Maldives 6-1 in early matches. 

According to Afghanistan Football Federation, the Afghan National Futsal Team is the youngest futsal squad at the games with players averaging 22 years of age. 

Meanwhile, UAE and Maldives have the oldest players on average with the ages averaging 27 years old. 

At the end of the fourth day of the games, Afghanistan has won 1 gold, 1 silver and 8 bronze medals and is in 23rd position on the medal table. 

Sixty four countries are participating across 21 sporting codes, with an estimated 6,000 athletes taking part.
