Afghanistan Wins Its 9th Bronze Medal At Asian Games

Noor Ahmad Ahmadi, Afghan freestyle wrestler, won a bronze medal in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat late Monday.

Ahmadi, 25, beat his Tajik rival 10-0 in the first round of the freestyle 97kg category but lost to his Iranian rival 5-0 in the second round.  

Ahmadi also faced off against his Chinese rival and beat him 5-0. In the finals he beat Turkmenistan’s Melejayew Yusup 5-0 to win bronze.

Afghanistan has so far won one gold, one silver and nine bronze medals and is placed 24th on the medal list – out of 65 countries.

177 Afghan athletes are participating in 17 sports at the games.

In total, 65 counties are taking part – with Turkmenistan top of the medal list with 211 medals, including 79 gold.
