APL’s 6th Season To Kick Off Next Month

The sixth season of the Afghan Premier League (APL), which will kick off in September, would bring more joy to the football fans as it would be held in a different way this year.

“The embassy of China has agreed to design the lighting system for the stadium and with the help of this system, we will hold the second phase of the matches (the semi-finals and final) during nights,” said Yusuf Kargar, technical deputy head of Afghanistan Football Federation. “This has not happened in the past 35 years.”

The APL team has selected best players in a provincial tournament which ended last month. The selected teams have started exercises in Kabul.

“De Maiwand Atalan will be the champ this year,” said Boir Igamberdiev, the coach of De Maiwand Atalan FC. “Last year, the team played against Shaheen Asmayee in the final match. We only think about championship and we have good players.”

“The teams are very good. Today was the first day of the exercise. We had a tense exercise,” said Faiz Mohammad Faizi, member of De Maiwand Atalan. “We will try hard for the championship and our coach have the experience of championship and I hope that we will be the champions this time.”

Meanwhile, De Abaseen Sape FC coach Vali Igamberdiev said they have started hard trainings and that they will win the championship title this year.

“De Abaseen Sape is the only team which has not played well (in previous seasons) but this time I want the team reach the semifinals,” he said.

All matches will be played at the Afghanistan Football Federation Stadium in Kabul.

The APL has made a huge splash since it began in 2012, and has been praised by many for its role in bringing people from around the country together through their love for football.

The APL tournament held annually with the participation of eight teams from eight zone of the country, and in the history of the Afghan Premier League, Shaheen Asmayee FC has the record of the tournament with three times championship and Toofan Harirod and De Spin Ghar Bazan respectively each with one times championship.
