APL’s Southwest Regional Tournament Kicks Off

The Southwest Regional Tournament of the Afghan Premier League (APL) was launched in Kandahar on Wednesday where players from six teams will compete for a place in the  Da Maiwand Atalan Football Club team.

Players are from Zabul, Nimroz, Uruzgan, Helmand and two teams from Kandahar province.

The teams are divided into two groups – Group A and Group B.

In the first match of the tournament on Wednesday, Kandahar A defeated Uruzgan by 4-0 while the second match between Kandahar B and Zabul saw Kandahar B defeat Zabul 8-0.

Two matches are played each day at the Ahmad Shahi Stadium in Kandahar.

On Thursday, the first match of the day, saw Kandahar A defeat Helmand by 2-0. 

The tournament will continue for four days. 

At least 26 best players will be selected for Da Maiwand Atalan, which will then take part in the sixth annual Afghan Premier League tournament in Kabul later this summer.
