FIFA President Congratulates Shaheen Asmayee

FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Tuesday sent a letter of congratulations to Shaheen Asmayee FC on winning the Afghan Premier League Championships for the fourth time.

In the letter sent to the team via the Afghan Football Federation, Infantino said: "It gives me great pleasure to send my warmest congratulations to Shaheen Asmayee FC for their fourth championship title."

"This title is the result of the determination of everyone involved and my congratulations go to the players, the coach, the administration, the entire technical and medical staff as well as the fans for this great achievement," he said.

In conclusion he said: "On behalf of the entire football community, I would like to thank Shaheen Asmayee FC and your association for helping to spread the positive message of football."

This comes after Shaheen Asmayee beat De Maiwand Atalan on Friday in the finals of this year’s APL, which was the first night final in over 40 years.

Despite security threats, a crowd of 10,000 people packed into the Afghan Football Federation Stadium in Kabul city. People from different ethnic groups stood shoulder to shoulder to watch the match, and together tension was put aside and everyone cheered for their favorite team.

Among the spectators were political figures and government officials who had also come out to watch the match.
