Southern Helmand province football federation praised its best football players of 2017 at a meeting on Saturday.
 
According to director of Helmand football federation, Mohammad Ibrahim, over 70 football teams have been registered in the Helmand center. 
 
“During the last year 16 tournaments were established there are now a total of 70 teams in Lashkargah city,” Ibrahim said. 
 
Meanwhile, members of Helmand provincial council promised to support the athletes and give a helping hand in preventing the youths from getting involved in war and violence. 
 
“We are committed to supporting sport. There are problems and challenges, but those playgrounds are yours,” Bashir Kakar, a member of the council said. 
 
“In every sport, especially football, when we watch a competition in other provinces or in the center (Kabul), the Helmand name is being said. That makes us proud and that is because of you,” Karim Atal, another member of the council said. 
 
Sports fans in Helmand have recently seen cricket, volleyball and football competitions held between the youths of the province.
